Charts & distributions Pro
Below the duration metrics, the Analyze view shows a chart for every structured note field — dropdowns, tags, and checkboxes. It's a powerful way to spot patterns you wouldn't notice scanning shot by shot.
Charts in Analyze are available on the Pro and Business plans.
What charts are shown?
There are two main visualizations:
- Shot duration over time — a scatter plot showing each shot's duration along the timeline of the video. Useful for spotting pacing patterns (e.g. "the pacing accelerates in the second half").
- Metadata distribution charts — one chart per non-text note field. Bars show how often each value appears.
A typical workflow might surface insights like:
- "This commercial uses close-up shots 60% of the time."
- "The drone footage all happens in the back half of the video."
- "The director uses soft lighting twice as often as hard lighting."
Which fields get charts?
- Dropdown fields — one bar per option.
- Tag fields — one bar per tag (a single shot can contribute to multiple).
- Checkbox fields — two bars (true / false).
- Default time-based fields (duration, start time) — the duration-over-time scatter.
Text fields are excluded from charts since they're free-form.
Do filters affect the charts?
Yes. Charts reflect the currently visible shots. Use the editor's filters (favorites, hidden, search) to drill into a slice — for example, "of the close-up shots, what lighting was used?"
Can I export the charts?
Today, screenshots are the simplest way. Use your operating system's screenshot tool, or the snipping shortcut of your choice.
The raw data behind every chart is in your shot list spreadsheet — open it in Excel/Sheets and build any chart you want.
What if my charts look empty?
A couple of common causes:
- You haven't filled in any values for that field yet.
- The field is text-type, which isn't charted.
- An active filter is hiding most of your shots.
Why isn't this view available?
If you see an upgrade prompt instead of charts, you're on the Free or Basic plan. See Compare plans to upgrade.
Tip: design fields with analytics in mind
When you're creating custom fields, knowing how Analyze handles each type can shape your choices. If you might want a chart of Camera Angle, make it a Dropdown with a defined set of options. If you scribble camera notes in a free-form Text field instead, you'll lose the ability to chart them.
