What viewers see

It helps to know what your client, teammate, or audience will encounter when they open a StoryFolder share link.

What does the shared page look like?

When a viewer opens your link, they see:

  • A header with your storyboard's title and your name as the author.
  • An embedded video player (if the source was a public YouTube or Vimeo link).
  • The storyboard itself, with one of three view options:
    • Storyboard — large thumbnails with notes alongside.
    • Grid — dense thumbnails for visual scanning.
    • List — compact rows with thumbnails and metadata.
  • A view switcher so viewers can pick the layout they prefer.

Can viewers interact with the storyboard?

Yes — but they can't edit. Specifically, viewers can:

  • Switch between view modes.
  • Click a shot to jump the embedded video player to that timecode.
  • Read all of your notes.
  • See which shots are favorited.
  • Read on mobile, tablet, or desktop.

They cannot:

  • Add, edit, or delete notes.
  • Re-detect shots or run any AI tools.
  • Export PDFs or images (yet).
  • See hidden shots or fields you toggled off before publishing.

Do viewers need a StoryFolder account?

No. Anyone with the link can view, without signing up.

What if my video is from a file (not a URL)?

The shared page shows your storyboard, thumbnails, and notes — but the embedded player is omitted, since the original video lives on your machine. If you'd like viewers to be able to watch the video alongside, paste a URL to the source video in a video-level note before publishing.

Will viewers see my email or full name?

They see the name on your StoryFolder account. They don't see your email address.

Can viewers leave comments?

Not yet. Comment threads on shared links are on our roadmap. For now, send the link and a comment request through your usual channels (email, Slack, etc.).

As long as you keep it published. You can Unpublish any time from the Share dialog — the link will stop working immediately.

We don't currently expose per-viewer analytics for share links. If this is important to you, let us know.
