Storyboard, list & grid views
StoryFolder gives you three ways to look at the same shot list. Each one is optimized for a different kind of work. Switch between them as your task changes.
What are the three views?
- Storyboard view — large thumbnails with notes shown alongside. Best for deep note-taking.
- List view — compact horizontal rows with thumbnail + metadata fields. Best for skimming notes across many shots.
- Thumbnail grid view — dense grid of just thumbnails. Best for getting a visual overview of the whole video.
How do I switch views?
Two ways:
- Keyboard shortcuts:
- B → Storyboard
- L → List
- T → Thumbnail grid
- Header buttons. The three small view icons in the editor header, just left of the visual effects menu.
Your last choice is remembered the next time you open the project.
When should I use each view?
Storyboard view — when you're actively writing notes. The notes panel on the right targets whichever shot you click, but the inline notes layout below each shot in the center column lets you scan related shots while you type.
List view — when you've got dozens of notes already filled in and you want to scroll-read them like a spreadsheet row.
Thumbnail grid view — when you want to spot visual patterns. This is the fastest way to get a feel for the rhythm and color palette of a video.
Can I change the size of the thumbnails?
Yes. The Zoom slider in the header resizes thumbnails in any view from very small to very large. Keyboard shortcuts:
- = — zoom in
- - — zoom out
What's the difference between a shot and a section?
By default, every "shot" is a single visual cut detected by the AI. When you Merge consecutive shots together with the J tool, the result is treated as a section — a longer block you can take notes on as one. Sections behave just like shots in every view.
Can I change the order of shots?
No — shot order always follows the source video's timeline. You can hide, favorite, or filter shots, but you can't reorder them.
