AI field discovery Pro

Designing your own note fields is powerful — but staring at a blank Preferences pane can be intimidating. AI field discovery is a built-in assistant that turns a quick description of your project into a full set of note fields you can add with a click.

AI field discovery is available on the Pro and Business plans.

How does it work?

  1. Open Preferences → Notes & Data.
  2. At the top, find the input that asks "What kind of insights are you trying to capture?"
  3. Type a short description: "cinematography breakdown", "ad analysis", "directing study", "lighting design".
  4. Click Suggest fields. The AI assistant returns a list of suggested fields, each with a proposed type.
  5. Click + next to any field you like. It's added to your active fields.

You can use AI discovery as many times as you want — each new prompt produces a fresh set of suggestions.

What kind of prompts should I try?

The more specific you are, the better the suggestions. Examples:

  • "Cinematography breakdown of a feature film"
  • "Marketing analysis of a 30-second TV commercial"
  • "Lighting setup notes for an interview shoot"
  • "Storyboard planning for a music video"
  • "Documentary subject and theme tracking"
  • "VFX shot review for a feature"

Avoid one-word prompts like "video" — they produce generic suggestions.

Can I edit a suggested field after adding it?

Yes. Once a suggested field is added, it behaves like any other custom field — you can rename it, change its options (for dropdowns and tags), reorder it, move it to another category, or delete it.

Will the AI replace my current fields?

No. AI discovery only adds fields. Your existing setup is untouched.

Where do the suggestions come from?

Suggestions are generated by an AI model running on StoryFolder's servers. We don't store your prompts or train on them — they're processed for that one request and discarded.

What if I'm not on Pro?

You can still use the default fields and build storyboards as usual. To unlock custom fields and the AI assistant, see Compare plans or upgrade from your account page.

Tips

  • Run AI discovery once per project type rather than per video. Once you have a great Cinematography category, reuse it across every film you study.
  • Combine prompts: use one prompt to seed a Lighting category, then a separate prompt for Camera.
  • Trust your instincts. Delete any suggested field that doesn't resonate — your fields, your call.
