Copy & paste metadata
When a run of shots shares a value, type it once and paste it. Copy takes the metadata off one shot; paste opens a plan where you pick which of those fields to write, which shots to write them to, and whether anything already there is left alone.

How do I copy and paste?
- Select a shot and choose Copy notes & metadata from the inspector — in the editor or in the library.
- Select the shots you want it on and choose Paste notes & metadata. The action only appears once something has been copied.
- In the Paste metadata dialog, tick the fields you actually want. The buffer holds everything the source shot had; this is where you narrow it.
- Pick the scope — This shot, N selected, or All N shots.
- Pick the write mode — Only fill empty fields, or Overwrite existing values, which shows you a count of what it would replace first.
- Read the count line, then click Paste to N shots.
What does "Only fill empty fields" mean here?
Exactly what it says: a field that already holds something is left alone, whatever it holds. It's the default.
Does pasting to fifty shots make fifty history entries?
No, one. The whole paste is a single gesture, so it's one entry in version history and one undo.
Does this use my system clipboard?
No. It's a buffer inside StoryFolder, and it doesn't travel to other applications. That's deliberate — shot metadata is a keyed record with no useful text form, and sharing the system clipboard would put every copy you make in a notes box in competition with it.
What happens if the target project doesn't have one of the fields?
It's skipped and named, never silently recreated.
How do I use this on a big board?
Narrow first, paste once, then check the count.
- Filter the board down to the shots that should share a value.
- Copy from the one shot you've already got right.
- Paste to the selection with Only fill empty fields on.
- Compare the number the dialog gave you against the number of results the filter showed. If they disagree, stop — something in your selection isn't what you thought it was.
- Spot-check a few targets from the start, middle and end, plus one that already had a value.
When should I use AI Autofill instead?
When the answer is in the picture. Autofill classifies what a frame shows; copy and paste carries a fact you already know across a run of shots. A client name, a job number or a release status is the second kind. See AI Autofill.
