Library search
One search box covers four things at once: the titles and descriptions of your videos, the shot fields you type into, the video fields you type into, and transcript text.
How do I get to the search box?
Press / from anywhere in the library, or Cmd+F (Ctrl+F on Windows), which works even from inside another field. Or just click it.
What does a search cover?
It depends on where you're standing.
- From All items, a search or filter covers your whole library — filed videos included.
- Inside a folder, the same search narrows to that folder and its subfolders.
- Inside a collection, it narrows to the shots in that collection.
- A quick filter is a saved search, so it carries its own scope with it.
Finding something anywhere and finding it in this account differ by where you're standing and nothing else.
Is the matching fuzzy?
No. It's literal substring matching against text you or AI Autofill wrote. Typing wide finds shots with wide in a value; it leaves alone the shots that are wide but were never described.
Type two words and both have to match, in any order, within the same value. dock warehouse finds a Location reading Warehouse dock; dock forklift finds nothing.
The one fuzzy search in StoryFolder is the transcript box in the Transcript tab, which forgives a word the recogniser split or misheard.
Which fields does typing actually read?
Text, Dropdown, Tag and Number — on a shot or on a video alike. So typing a client name finds the project it's filed against, and typing 24 finds the shots whose Focal length says so.
Rating and Checkbox have no text to match. Reach those with a filter chip instead.
Chips and the box work together: filter to a client, then type the phrase.
Why is this result here?
Every result names what it matched on — a filter you built, a field by its label, or Transcript. Results are ordered by that: the conditions you built rank above a field hit, and a field hit above a transcript hit.
So a video that came back because somebody said a word on camera is visibly different from one that came back because you tagged it.
Does search narrow my exports and share links?
Yes. An export or a publish takes the shots your current query and filters leave standing — "filter to four stars, then publish the selects" gives you the selects. Clear your filters first if you want the whole thing.
What can't it do?
- It doesn't look at the picture. The index is only as good as what you or Autofill recorded.
- The transcript half only exists where somebody was talking. Silent b-roll needs shot metadata.
- There's no boolean syntax. No AND / OR / NOT — use filter chips for anything structured.
